175 made redundant in Danish Crown, Denmark

Danish Crown announced the layoff of 175 workers in their slaughterhouse in Horsens, Denmark. The reason is a reduction of pigs to be slaughtered from 100,000 per week to 85,000 per week. The background for the reduced amount of pigs is the drought in Denmark and the rest of Europe in the summer of 2018. The drought made it difficult for farmers to feed their animals, hence some farmers have given up breeding slaughter pigs. The production of piglets for export is still increasing.
